In early 2019, I started my Instagram to share my passion for farmhouse style home decor. What an unexpected journey it has been. And such an incredible blessing. It’s a perfect example that we don’t always know what God has in store for us! I started this journey to bring inspiration and ideas, and hopefully a little entertainment along the way. Even before the house fire, my goal was to inspire. Now it’s just become a lot more meaningful. I’m THRILLED to now have this blog to share my story more in depth, show our rebuild, memories of the old home, and of course stories of our family persevering.
My name is Kenzie, and I’m just a small town girl who grew up in a city about 40 minutes outside of Salt Lake City, Utah. I married my high school sweetheart, and we settled in that same town. We lived there for about 10 years, and decided we needed something different. We’d always dreamed about having more property. Somewhere in the country where you can open the windows and feel the breeze. Go out on the porch and listen to the crickets. Somewhere that is full of back roads, and where our kids can just throw on some mud boots and go play.
One Sunday afternoon, we were out for a family car ride and found a piece of property, in an even smaller town, about 10 minutes away. We instantly fell in love. It was home, and we both knew it was meant to be. It’s one acre, that sits adjacent to a sod farm, and there are farm fields, old barns, and livestock all around us. We absolutely love it! We feel so very lucky to be here. To have built our beautiful home, and grown our little farm, full of animals we adore. Unfortunately the fire has thrown quite the curveball in our ‘white picket fence’ happy ending, but we will prevail. We will build again. And continue to call this place home. Forever.
I hope you enjoy what you see here. I hope you can find inspiration. I hope you know you can prevail. Everyone has trials. Everyone has heartache. It’s choosing to see the good that will get you through. And no one can do that but you.
Thank you so very much for visiting and supporting us.
11:30PM, August 23rd, 2020, was the day my life changed forever. I changed forever. My family changed. For the better. Even through a tragedy. It’s everyone’s worse nightmare. It’s literally one of those things you legitimately think, “that will never happen to me.” Well it did. It happened. My family is safe. The animals are safe. We are shattered. But at the end of the day, we’ve learned things are just things. It could have been so much worse. We are so blessed. And we are telling our story.
As we navigate this trial, we will rise from the ashes and rebuild. I would love to work with you and have you be part of our journey and story! I am excitedly accepting new collaborations for the rebuild of our home. Building Barnwood Farmhouse 2.0 is the hope and joy keeping us going. Please reach out if you’d like to be part of the process.
